Regular town board meeting held on February 10, 2015 at the Town Hall Meeting Room. Meeting notice was posted in 3 places in town: Post Office, Wabeno Hardware & the Town Hall window box.
Present were Chairman Edward Piontek, Supervisor Paul Ehlinger and Kevin Podjaski, Treasurer Cheryl Ehlinger and Clerk Brenda St. Peter.
Ed called the meeting to order at 7pm.
People present recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Ed made a motion to approve the agenda as presented. Paul seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Brenda read the minutes of the January 13, 2015 meeting. Paul made a motion to accept the minutes as read. Kevin seconded the motion. The motion carried.
There were no public comments.
Brenda read a letter from Paul Strong, Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest Supervisor. The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest would like to provide support of the Camp One Road to improve its conditions. This is a 20% matching share. Paul made a motion to send in the Eastern Federal Lands Access Program Application. Kevin seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Ed, Paul and Kevin signed the Fire Protection Contract for the Town of Freedom for the year 2015.
Ed made a motion to accept the Wabeno Fire Department Officers. They are Chief Scott Shaffer Sr., Assistant Chief Paul Ehlinger, Assistant Chief Mark “Eli” Gaffke, Caption Edward “Butch” Piontek, Captain/Fire Inspector Richard Marvin, Lieutenant Peter Gill and Lieutenant/Secretary/Treasurer Sheri Caelwaerts. Kevin seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Ed made a motion to accept the Wabeno Election workers for the year 2015. They are Dena Moravec, Chris Geske, Peggy Rummel, Kim Geiter, Sharon Stefanski, Tammy Ehlinger, Joan Schertz, Shirley Ashbeck and Cheryl Ehlinger. Kevin seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Paul made a motion to sign the Wolf River-Scenic Byway resolution. Kevin seconded the motion. The motion carried. This program helps in identifying, promoting and preserving Wisconsin’s scenic roads.
Richard Backhaus spoke about the Humane Officer position. Richard would like to see periodic unannounced visits by the town board to check Humane Officer facilities. Richard also requested looking into dosage amounts when giving shots, such as…do smaller dogs get the same dosage as large dogs. These requests will be considered by the town board.
Brenda read a letter from the Friends of Wabeno requesting annual use of the Wabeno Library Park for a Country Market. Kevin made a motion to give permission to the Friends of Wabeno to set up a Country Market which will run from Memorial Day to Labor Day or beyond, depending on weather, on the Wabeno Library Park grounds. Ed seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Kevin made a motion to sign the Emergency Medical Agreement with the United Area Rescue Squad for the year 2015. Paul seconded the motion. The motion carried.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 10, 2015.
Cheryl presented the board with the financial statement. Checks were 3970 – 4088 with a void of 4078.
Ed made a motion to adjourn. Paul seconded the motion. The motion carried.
